We are a 100% Costa Rican company which was born during the early 90’s motivated by the constant visit of tourists that came with the intention of seeing our father’s art and who also wanted to enjoy the beautiful scenery and nature found in this place.

The success we have enjoyed through out these years has been thanks to God’s help, who besides blessing our father with great creative talent, allows us to enjoy and offer our customers and the general public that visits us beautiful rivers from which crystal clear waters flow, where we can breathe 100% fresh air and offer a great service and warmth to our customers.

 WHY EL PELICANO?

This name has a history…

    Since 20 years ago, Mr. Rafael Elizondo is a big fan of wood carving, and frequently picks up pieces of wood and branches in his ranch that nature has already given shape. Usually these branches and pieces only need a slight touch to become great works of art.

    It was by looking for this kind of wood that Mr. Elizondo found, hiking some 3 hours away from the housing, a twisted tree trunk that had the unmistakable shape of a pelican.

    The trunk was way too heavy for him to carry it all the way home, so he left it in the river bank with the intention of coming back for it at a later time.

    In those days, Hurricane Cesar was hitting the Central American coasts, causing storms and flooding in our territory.

    After one of these storms, Mr. Elizondo found the tree trunk with the pelican shape right in front of the housing building; the river had brought it right to his doorstep without suffering any damage.

    That same wooden Pelican, the one which Mr. Elizondo cleaned and coated with varnish, is now famous in the area and attracts the attention of many tourists. This Pelican is where we get our name Mountain Housing El Pelicano from.

El Pelicano mountain Housing is located in San Gerardo de Rivas, Perez Zeledon, one of the most beautiful landscapes in Costa Rica, close to the national park Chirripo and just 90 minutes away from Dominical beach in the pacific ocean.
