This is a program that aims to categorize and certify businesses in the tourism industry according to their levels of sustainable operation. The Hotel de Montaña el Pelicano participates in this program of Certificate of Sustainability of the Institute of Costa Rican Tourism. To date, we have been awarded a level of three leaves.
The CST evaluates four fundamental areas:
1. Physical Biological Parameters
Evaluates the interaction between a business and the natural surroundings, interested in the implementation of sustainable policies and programs, protection of the environment among other things.
2. Infrastructure and Services
Evaluates aspects related to the internal systems and processes of the business, with regards to the management of wastes and the use of water and electricity saving technologies.
3. Client Outreach
Evaluates actions taken by management to invite client participation in the implementation of the sustainable policies of the business.
4. Social Economical
Evaluates the relationship and interaction of the establishment with the adjacent communities; analyzing for example, the levels in which businesses respond to the growth and development of the region, whether by creating jobs or achieving benefits for the collective good.
In 2010, the Hotel de Montaña el Pelicano attained the third level, in our first time participating in the program of certification of sustainability in tourism CST; we are the first hotel with this level awarded in the entire region of Pérez Zeledón.
