Status:  Very Common.

Size:  13.5 cm.

Weight:  20 grams.

Elevation:  up to 3,000 meters above sea level.

 

Frequents urban and suburban areas, rural fields, parks, gardens, agricultural fields and areas of secondary growth with bushes.

The couples defend small territories during the entire year.

The non territorial birds live in a furtive way in shared areas or form flocks that move locally,  forages principally in the soil, hopping along and gathering the granular seeds of grasses and herbs, fallen grains and insects; sometimes they make short  flights behind low flying insects; the males sing from elevated perches.  They are very trusting and sometimes enter homes in search of food.
