Frequents open areas related to agriculture.  In some areas can be seen along the roadside.

Forms flocks; fly and feed in small groups and large flocks.

Feed on seeds, grains on the ground, insects and sometimes will eat parasites like ticks from the backs of cattle.

This species is a parasite;  deposits its eggs in the nests of other species;  especially Altapetes guttarlis, Melazone biarcuatum and the genus Arremonops.
